I took an African Drumming course on my semester abroad. My professor was an ethnomusicologist and told me that I was an excellent player; reliable in terms of being able to play whatever she threw at me.
I had a great deal of fun. I loved, loved the class, even when we’d play til my hands bled.
I apparently have wonderful rhythm naturally. I say naturally because I’d never taken a drumming course before. I’m eager to pick it up again. I grew fond of the different instruments with which I had became acquainted.
Being socially awkward, it gave me a medium through which I could interact with others, too. It was beautiful. No words, just rhythm and a completely different form of communication.
...unfortunately, I live in Cape May County.
