I guess instead of having childhood fantasies about my future wedding, I instead had fantasies about being a CIA assassin. Okay, not really assassin, because I wouldn’t want to actually kill anything, but a kick-butt clandestine type outsmarting all the bad guys. As I’ve gotten older I’ve settled for learning to pick locks. What sort of function could that specific skill provide in my life? Since I’m not the psycho girlfriend plotting to break into the ex’s apartment and “make him pay,” what use could these specific skills be used toward? I also don’t plan on being a thief (karma will get you). So, obviously there isn’t a real need for lock-picking in my life, but it’s still something (a leftover childhood remnant perhaps) that I want to learn. This is the same reason I learned to fence (to be childish, not because I’m planning on running around challenging people to duals).
