I thought I was going to die the last yoga session. Our teacher had us hold the pigeon pose for what seemed like an eternity. Just need to remind myself that if it’s not working for me, I don’t have to do what the rest of the class is doing. My yoga instructor suggested after the class that I try doing yoga during the week, an additional 2-3x. He thought that going once a week was like starting from scratch on a weekly basis….as your body tightens up after working 8 or 9 hours a day in an office environment. So I might purchase a yoga DVD I can do at home.

Just got back from a Yin yoga session at Urban Body Studios in Atlanta. Absolutely fabulous! Some of the stretches are a little intense, so it could feel like you’re pushing yourself too hard (especially with the neck stretches). But at the end of the class, you feel like a million dollars. I prefer Yin over Vinyasa and many of the other styles, because to me it’s more relaxing…it’s not a cardio workout (Downward Dog! Warrior! Cobra!), but slower paced with longer poses. I look forward to my next session.
Went to Yoga Samadhi this afternoon. Marta Guzman is the best! Fantastic instructor. The pigeon pose is an incredible opening position, your legs/thighs feel wonderful afterwards. But damn! That pose can be quite painful. Maybe it’s tougher for us guys due to lesser flexibility? Or maybe I’m just very out of shape.
I just bought this amazing CD called “Monsoon Point” by Al Gromer Khan & Amelia Cuni. The music is incredible for yoga…Amelia Cuni specializes in the Dhrupad style of singing (Indian). Check it out if you can find it…the CD is out of print, but I was able to get a copy from their record label, New Earth Records.
It’s funny, my yoga teacher’s boyfriend responded to an ad I placed on Craigslist, looking for musicians to collaborate with. What a coincidence! It’s important to remember not to overdo it…namaste.
I went to a yoga session at Yoga Samadhi today…as challenging as it was, I felt 100x better afterwards. The spiritual component is fantastic, and physically, the benefits are enormous. I really do want to go every weekend.
