learn php and mysql

Moved the entire news section away from pure html into MySQL/PHP and kludged up about 10 lines of code to read it and display it. It’s ugly, I’m ashamed of this code, but it works. And that’s enough for tonight.

It’s sad when it takes you 10 minutes to troubleshoot an issue and the problem was that you simply did not select a database to use after connecting to the server.

I am aiming to make it all object oriented and maybe even XML based.

Coding SQl by hand is ridicilous and stupid. As is coding PHP. However, after phonening around and getting some quotes for this work, it would seem that I must do it myself, since I can’t afford the going rate for these jobs.

So tonight, I opened my old PHP4 book, and started getting back into it. And surprisingly it’s going rather well. I’ve completed most of the work on creating the relational dattabase, and tested a very basic connect/disconnect code.

Next step would be for me to fill the database up, or spend the time writing code to do it graphically. That would imply learning CSS and way more PHP, perhaps it’s a good opportunity. We’ll see.
