Keep the mind sharp and going

I have decided to do another Masters, maybe in 2008 when we’re settled in Italy and the children more grown up.

I’ll do it by correspondance, with the British Open University.

For the moment, I have my eyes on the Msc in Development Management. It would be consistent with my earlier qualifications in Political Science and International Relations. I still harbour hopes of working in an NGO or an International Organisation one day.

I wonder too if I shouldn’t finish my Doctorate. But I do not intend to teach so it wouldn’t serve much good. May be better to expand on parallel knowledge and go for something more practical. We’ll see. For the moment I’m just stuck at home with the kids.

Come to think of it, I have left school 10 years behind me now. One doesn’t seem to get to practise much of one’s studies in the real world. I have missed the presentations, debates, essays etc that I’ve spent years working on. Nowadays, am not even reading a tenth of what I used to read. And there isn’t much interesting or intelligent debating going-on in one’s daily life, except the usual ’’What shall I eat? What shall I do?’’. The mind rusts. The tongue gets heavy. One starts to forget. I need to feed the brain. Oil it and keep it going until I find something interesting for it to do again.
