Recital???

I was recently informed that all of my instructor’s students will be performing in a recital next month. NEXT MONTH! NEXT MONTH! I’m freaking out, man!

I might not be, had we been working on the song I chose three months ago. I guess I just have to demand time on the song from now on! Geesh!

And the kicker? We’re to invite someone. Yeah, you read that correctly. INVITE SOMEONE. Okay, I’m 29, so it’s not like I’m inviting my parents (they live out of state, anyway). No boyfriend, which actually a plus, since the extreme horror I feel about recitals. I have a roommate, so I’m sure she’ll just LOVE to tease me with this one! Actually, I invited my roommate & my friend Debbye, who recently moved back out to the Inland Empire. Maybe it’ll remind her of all the people in her former city of Hollywood who were trying to “make it big.” Mostly, I think it’ll just be more fodder for hilarious flickr pics and great stories. I’m game for either.

It’s not that I have issues singing in public. I do it all of the time, and I’m not just talking about when I’m walking down the street. I’m actually in a choir, and I sing alto in a worship team. I’ve just always been “one of many,” or at least accompanied with another singer.

I just don’t want to completely suck. So, I think I’m going to practice right now!!!!

Keep 'em coming!

Since my last entry, I did change my vocal instructor. The change was mostly financial. I’ve left an open door for my previous teacher, because I really did like her approach. The fact that she taught out of her home studio, recorded my lessons onto a cd, and taught mic stylings was also a big plus.

Currently, I’m plugging away at the fundamentals: breathing, vocal control, sound quality. it’s a stretch, but I have seen improvement in my quality & range.

Lessons

I’ve begun my lessons, but I might change my instructor!

Getting Started

Last night, I ran into my vocal instructor at a meeting we had for the worship team. I mentioned that I wanted to start up again, so she said she’d give me a call to set up a time for Saturday. This time, though, she’s charging. I understand, though. I’m a little apathetic, but if I’m paying, I’ll be more likely to practice! I guess I’ll just have to skip Starbucks for the next few months!

Again

I started taking lessons a few months ago, but I only went twice. I need to start up again, as I desire to make the best use of this voice I’ve been given. Plus, I’ll be singing on the worship team of The Call, so I need to be prepared.

My goal: Take lessons once a week for 12 weeks.
