simon got 4 walks yesterday, totalling about 45 minutes worth of roaming time. he was really funny, any time i tried to take him back towards the house and he wasn’t ready to go back, he would pull on the leash and veer off onto a side block, just to let me know he still had things he needed to check out. so cute!

whenever i’m between jobs i really try to make an effort to give him additional walking time. he loves it so much, and how can it be bad for me to make sure he gets what makes him happy, especially when it’s exercise?

oh, winter 10 months ago

so cold, so busy. simon’s not really having me these days, especially these last, very busy, two weeks. i walk him in the morning, then leave for work and don’t come back until latelatelate- i make him wait 9 to 12+ hours for his next walk (!) and then only take him out for a quickie. i also haven’t been spending as much time with him as he needs. poor poopoodog.

i’m a much better dogmother on the weekends. he needs more, and longer walks in order to keep his spirits up. he lives for walks and dog biscuits and i need to make sure he’s happy. i can’t wait for spring.

feels good to make the dog happy 23 months ago

i’m going through frustrating relationship/end of relationship sadness right now, so it feels good to make the dog happy. all the dog wants out of life is to be walked, to be petted and to be fed and if i can’t make myself happy right now i may as well fulfill the dog’s wants and needs.

sometimes i get lazy or grumpy and really don’t feel like taking him out- it’s so much easier to throw him in th backyard for a minute, but i know it makes him super happy to hit the streets.

i’ve been walking him between two and three times a day, and i’ve been home all this week on xmas holiday, so aside from a few days where it’s been really bad, rainy weather out, we’ve been doing 3 to 4 walks a day. i was gonna slack off on the pre-sleep walk tonight, but i felt guilty, so i took him out and he was psyched.

so yeah- i’m sad, but i can at least make the dog happy, so that’s what i’m gonna do. one of us should have our wants and needs fulfilled.

home! 3 years ago

i got back from being on the road this morning and i tokk simey on a nice, 20 minute walk this afternoon. he’ll get another walk tonight. so, including the walk he went on this morning with olu he’ll have gotten at least 45 minutes worth of walking time. i am soooooooo glad to be home.

the dog barker 3 years ago

it’s sad how i’ve been on the road for the past few weeks- i miss my animals! the cat only demands petting, so she’s low maintenance, but the dog is well taken care of by my friend, olu. i call him the dog nanny, but he’s really the dog barker, proving that all dogs need is firm, loving guidance, not endless access to homemade waffles and dry aged steak bones. olu’s limited simon’s food intake to two handfuls of dry food a day, and increased his walks to as far as the dog can take it until he starts to tire out. i came home this week after being gone for 5 days and simon looked like he’d slimmed down considerably, the little fatass dog!

as soon as i got in last night (at around 8:30) i took him for a walk. today i took him out 4 times. tommorrow i plan to walk him to tompkins park over on greene. he loves that park.

simon got four walks in one day this week.

today i took him for a 20 minute walk, then we sat on the stoop for another 20 minutes, enjoying the breeze and the feeble late winter sun. i read a book and ate black grapes. simon people watched and rubbbed his ears against my fingers.

he’s getting arthritic in his right front leg, so i have to get his weight down and run him a bit more.

he’s the best.

3 x 12 minutes 3 years ago

We just got back from our third walk of the day. Simon is loving it right now, what with all the curbed xmas trees to sniff at and pee on. I think maybe it reminds him of the house in Pennsylvania. Poor baby. I wonder if he ever misses the country. He seems to love Brooklyn so much- I’m glad he was able to adapt so well. It’s been rough on him since Mom got sick.

Our last walk was so nice- a beautiful, misty night. Not cold at all- it felt more like a mid-March night, as opposed to the middle of winter.

It takes us twelve minutes to walk all the way around our big, Brooklyn boulevard, so if we go out three times a day that’s 36 minutes on the street for dogdog. He’s gonna be not so happy when I get a job, but he dealt with that when he lived with my sister and her husband, so I guess he’ll get used to being less spoiled at Brooklyn doggy camp.

transit strike! 4 years ago

now that we’re having the transit strike and i can’t get to my gym in manhattan, i’ll just take the dog out on longer walks and get him to do a little running with me. he’s all amped up from the cold, windy wether, anyway, so it’ll be a good way for the two of us to get some exercise and blow off some of the winter blahs that are creeping on the periphery.

we did three walks today and he was so happy.
