My grandfather’s funeral is the week I’d plan to leave. He’s the man I give credit to for inspiring me to travel in the first place. Even in his late 70’s he was off in his camper van, travelling round Europe for months at a time.
I’ll being well, I set off for Gibraltar on the morning of the 12th of May. I’ve got two weeks, I’ll see how far I want to travel in that time. One way ticket, buy the ticket back at the end when I know where I am.
Check out the monkeys, then on up the south coast of Spain.
I’m looking for ideas about what to do on the Spanish coast. So far I plan to be in Barcelona, either on a Tuesday or Thursday evening, they have regular group skates on those nights, other than that not sure.
I’m going to see if I can document my trip here as I go, and link to my pictures on flickr.
I wrote about this the other day in 43places, but I thought it would be a good place to document it here too. I had this crazy travel idea the other month, but I’m still interested in going through with it and I’d greatly appreciate any incite, info or help you might be able to offer. My plan would be to start in Gibraltar next to one of the pillars of Hercules, look out over the coast to Morocco, decide i want to get to the other side, but take the long way, make my way round the entire coast of the Mediterranean.
All 21 countries, am I missing any:
Gibraltar
Spain
France
Italy
Slovenia
Croatia
Bosnia and Herzegovina
Serbia and Montenegro
Albania
Greece
(Maybe pop over to Cyprus)
Turkey
Syria
Lebanon
Israel
Gaza strip
Egypt
Libya
Tunisia
Algeria
Morocco
I’ve not looked much into this, not sure how safe it would be, I’d have to do it in stages, probably two weeks at a time and fly back to England, I’d want to keep my day job. I’ve since found out that Paul Theroux wrote about this 10 years ago, I’ve bought the book and plan to read it. It’s where the title came from.
