obstacles  — 5 months ago

I’ve been “running” as a part of my new fitness plan. However, between trying to avoid shin splints and realizing this morning that it’s wreaking havoc on my knees, I’m not sure how long I’ll be able to continue down this path. Hopefully this is just beginner’s difficulties and I’ll get through it…

not running, but walking  — 8 months ago

I have been exhausted since I quit my job three months ago. I guess having nothing to do makes your body think that it doesn’t need any energy. And, well, now I’ve got a job. I have to learn how to stay awake (and alert!) for a least 10 consecutive hours a day. I know I’m capable of doing this, but it’s been awhile.

This afternoon I wanted to go out to the coffee shop and read. I did take a tiny little nap before leaving, but I was still exhausted and wanted to get back in bed. I told myself no, though, and left the apartment.

As it turns out, the cup of coffee isn’t what I needed to stay awake – it was the walk. I felt so refreshed and alive.

I’ll be taking public transportation to my new job, which will require about a mile of walking… awesome! Perfect way to energize myself before heading into the office. And also make sure that I’m getting at least some activity during the day, since I’ve got a desk job.

I’m not sure where this entry really belongs, but that walk really boosted me. I feel healthier already :-P

I officially failed  — 9 months ago

I expected that because this was my personal challenge that something was going to blow up or something equally dramatic would occur. I guess not…

I think I’ll stay away from the challenges for awhile.

t-minus 1 day  — 9 months ago

Oops.

I haven’t stuck with this. I think I gave myself about two months to get it into gear and I never did.

I’m conflicted because I’d love to be a runner. I dream of running a 5k with my dad. But I’m more likely to stick with a walking program.

There’s really no excuse for my failure. I’m not sure what’s next…

unanticipated obstacles  — 10 months ago

So when I created this personal challenge I did not expect to get a nasty cold. Not that this is my only excuse for failing miserably so far… but considering that I keep getting worse, there’s no way I’ll be exercising over the next couple of days.

It sucks. I’m laying in bed, feeling fat. I’d rather be out running, but instead I’m lounging around and eating a lot. Way for me to be counterproductive.

I can’t wait to feel better!

couch-to-5k/week 3  — 10 months ago

I tried this running plan a few years ago, but at the time running hurt my knees like crazy. Right now I think my joints can handle it (knock on wood) and I’m considering trying this plan out. I’m still not sure about it because I usually have problems running after taking a walking break, but it can’t hurt to try considering my progress on the goal so far…

Which brings me to the week 3 totals. Drum roll, please…

week 2  — 10 months ago

1 walk, 1 run.

...which brings me to a grand total of 2 walks and 1 run. Ouch.

I almost threw up after running a mile. I’m not going to give up on running all together but I would think it wise to focus more on the walking.

And now I’m out of town for a few days… didn’t even think to bring my running shoes. Maybe I’ll try and sneak in a walk or two.

This isn’t going as planned…

and at the end of the first week...  — 10 months ago

1 walk, 0 runs.

It’s been HOT here. And our air conditioner broke, so it’s not like I could suck it up and run and then seek refuge indoors. However, I’m glad I forced myself to go for that walk.

With the exception of tomorrow, this week is supposed to be MUCH cooler. Time to get the ball rolling!

Personal Challenge Outline  — 11 months ago

1. Run at least 1 mile AT LEAST 18 times in the next 2 months. That equals out to be about 2x/week. Bare minimum.

2. Walk for 30+ minutes AT LEAST 24 times in the next 2 months. That equals out to be about 3x/week.

I hope that my body can handle the running… the walking should be a piece of cake. I hope to develop a routine I can stick with and motivation that will keep me going throughout the winter, because I cannot afford a gym membership and I never seem to stick with workout videos.

I really just hope this is a boost to my metabolism and an overall good way to improve my health and well being. I’ve had the desire to go out for a run lately but it’s been waaaaay too hot and I’ve had a visitor. Now he’s gone and temperatures are dropping a bit.

I’m nervous and excited. And I think I’ll update my iPod tomorrow with a good running playlist!

new plan  — 1 year ago

The reason I put this as a goal is because for awhile I was enjoying running. However, it’s now a total chore. I’m not giving up, but just altering this.

I want to run to be healthy. However, one of the best times in my life was when I lived in Mexico. I had a gym membership for a month, but other than that, I never formally worked out. However, I walked EVERYWHERE, I loved it, and I also lost a ton of weight. Sooooo, my new plan is to make the effort to walk for an hour. I’d like to do it everyday, but we’ll see how it goes. The only excuse I should have for not walking is because I already went for a run :-) And I’d like to aim to run twice a week.
