and it was an AMAZING experience. Went alone but did not feel alone ‘case I met soooo many people!!! I visited 10 cities: Paris, Budapest, Vienna (Wien), Venice, Rome, Munich, Barcelona, Madrid, Bern and Lisbon. I never made it to Copenhagen because as I was headed down there midway in Paris, I wanted to book my return ticket but the train was completely booked so I ended up staying a few extra nights in Paris before heading back home.
I took the overnight trains through out most of my trip which saved me a lot of time—I traveled during the night and woke up in a new city almost everyday. The cochette trains were surprisingly comfortable.
Aside from all the wonderful advice out there on the web ( www.soyouwanna.com), here a few tips if you’re planning a to backpack through Europe:
- Exchange 100 euros at the airport BEFORE landing in Europe
- Pull Euros from an ATM once you get to Europe. This is so that you won’t get robbed paying a ridiculous exchange rate & fees.
- Take a poncho or umbrella
- Take a good amount of baby wipes
Ahhhh….getting ready to plan my next trip. Debating between India or Peru…
