ride my bike more

I’m a Florida girl living in Kentucky, and I do not like the cold. My bike is stuck behind my husband’s motorcycle and probably will be until spring.

The other night I was really craving pizza. I finally decided that if I wanted it so bad, I had to ride my bike to pick it up. It’s only about 6/10 of a mile to get to the local pizza place, but I had never even considered riding instead of hopping in the truck. The only problem was my basket; it’s not wide enough at the bottom to let the pizza box sit level so all the cheese had slid to one side when I got home. I’ve riden about two miles each night since this (with no food reward at the end of the rides) and hope that I’m back in practice and will stick with it.

I rode my bike to the polls to vote yesterday. It felt really good to do that instead of hopping in the truck to drive a mile. All the older ladies working at the polls seemed to think it was cool too. On the way home I met a man on a bike going the other way, and we laughed and waved to each other.

I’m pretty sure I like my Diamondback Islander more than I’ve ever liked a bike in my life…even more than the one in the third grade with the purple banana seat!

I finally got my husband to get it out of the corner of the garage and dusted off all the spiders, and I’ve ridden it a little bit everyday since. I plan to get on it three days per week. The ultimate goal is to ride it to the nearest store (without getting killed by the speeding cars!)
