Why do these charities use their resources to contact people who have given no sign that they will donate?

We went through a snow storm while traveling yesterday. When we stopped for gas and coffee, I wasn’t thrilled to be walking through the parking lot,(The 40 degree change within 24 hours wasn’t helping my attitude.) but I found a penny on the way into the store. When I came back out, I found a dime!

I was going from one government office to another today (a total of five offices) in an effort to save some money on a tax bill, and I found 2 pennies along the way. (I also saved $308 on the bill with an exemption I wish I had known about for the last 7 years!)
This improved my spirits about this goal. I found a penny the other day after my swim, but I dropped it and it rolled into a drain!
Total = $1.78
For some reason, a charity sends me requests for donations about twice a year even though I haven’t supported them in the past. I’m sure they’re a fine organization, but I have others which I support with my contributions. Even more confusing is the nickel that they always send with their requests. I’m adding this five cents to my total.

We spent a lot of hours in a waiting room while my father had tests, but I did find a penny.
