Don't know where to start!

I have dreamed of this since I was a child; but I have no idea where to start. This is definitely something I must do before I die. But I’m more interested in the culture, history and people of the world than I am in museums and architecture etc. Although I do enjoy food, although I am a vegetarian. I want to travel the world to learn and explore all that is good in other cultures and other ways of thinking. How do I do this when it seems that everything is determined by the amount of money you have in your pocket? How unfortunate. I will explore different options to me for exploring the world. But I’m going to need you guys help.
