Even a simple spoken word, or smile, encourages others. Think of the grocery clerk, after long hours of monotonous boredom, a lift from a smile and thanks may make his/her day.
We may despair over our meager income and uncertain health, but we possess total ability to smile at another human being. Thoreau wrote, “To affect the quality of the day, that is the highest of arts.”
