Walking to a Film 8 months ago

I’m lucky to have a movie theatre downtown in my town, which is also downhill from where I live, about 2 kms away, so if I walk to a film it’s a 4 km walk and about 40 minutes of exercise. Tonight I walked down to watch the film I’ve Loved You So Long as part of the Fundy Film Society series and I had a coffee and some exercise too! I really have to combine walking and watching films more.

A Walk on a Cold Day 11 months ago

I went for a walk downtown today and it was cold (-1 Celcius), which was great as it made me walk faster. It was nice to get out in the late afternoon as the sun was going down and with the long shadows and sky shifting orange it was quite beautiful. Luckily I brought my 35mm Zenit camera with me so I could capture some of the light on film. I picked up a coffee to warm me up on the walk back home and I feel so much better for getting some exercise and fresh air in my lungs.

Hiking and Walking 2 years ago

I find that hiking is a lot more exciting and interesting than walking. Today my son and I hiked in Blomidon Provincial Park on the Jodrey Trail, which is a very nice and occasionally steep trail. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go, but my son wanted to, so we went and it was great with 12,584 steps or just over 8km. It took about 2 1/2 hours of hiking which felt great.
I walked again after supper to go downtown which brought my total steps for the day to 18,907 steps. I feel so much better with all this walking!

...and I would walk ten thousand more. 2 years ago

I went walking this afternoon and tried a route that was a bit bigger to make sure that I’d get my 10,000 steps in and I did it again. I think that I have a good route that I’m going to try to do as often as I can.

I would walk ten thousand steps... 2 years ago

I love having a pedometer to measure my progress. The first pedometer that I had broke (the clip on the back broke, but it was replaced free of charge) but the new one (exactly the same as the old one, but with a clip that works) is giving me a very measurable way to keep track of my walking. Today I was determined to get at least 10,000 steps, which I did almost exactly.
I took the long way downtown and the long way back, taking a slight detour through the walking trail that Acadia University has connected to their botanical gardens. I got to the driveway and walked to the door and had exactly 10,000 steps, so by the time I got in the house I had 10156 steps. It felt great and I’m going to try and beat that tomorrow.

Walking on May 30, 2007 2 years ago

Today I went for a walk again and that combined with walking around the building meant that I took 7913 steps, which is about 5.17 km. Walking makes me feel better, so I’m going to try and do it every day or at the very least walk around the building a lot.

More Measurable Walking 2 years ago

I bought a pedometer to keep track of my walking a bit more. One of the things that I can’t do anymore is walk around Citadel Hill every day, since I’m not around there anymore. But the new building where I’m working is much larger and I think that I’ll be walking more just to get around there, which will be good.
The other thing is to find new places to walk to make sure that I get outside and walk around.
Today I walked around the Woodland Trail close to the house, and took 2975 steps and walked about 1.93 kms, so that was good for a quick walk.

A Spring Walk 2 years ago

It was warmer than it has been for many weeks (months, even!) and the snow is pretty much all melted, so with the sun shining I had to go out and walk. I’m so glad that I did and I took a slightly longer route than I usually do and it was wonderful with about an hour of walking down and then up hill, so now I feel so much better after breathing the air and just feeling the sun on my face.

Starting Off The Year With a Good Walk 2 years ago

Since I wanted to start off the new year on the right foot I went for a walk downtown. It was cold and damp and cloudy, but I thought that a coffee in a cafe would be nice. Luckily for me there weren’t any cafes open, so I had to just keep walking. I took the long way home and ended up having a very nice walk of almost an hour and arrived home just as a very cold rain started to fall.

Walking 2 years ago

I went walking today for the first time in what seemed like a long time and it was very nice. Most of the snow that fell over the past week has melted and while it was cool, it was a very pleasant walk. I really have to do this more.
