Using OmniFocus to Get Things Done 10 months ago

I’ve been using a GTD system that seems to be working with a combination of a Mac-based application called OmniFocus along with an iPod Touch version of it as well. In the past I’d start to implement things, but as life got busier things would fall through the cracks and I’d miss things and then the whole thing would fall apart. The key for me has been the ability to capture things that I need to do where am I and to check them off and to know that nothing will be lost. It’s simple and easy to use and while it can be intimidating at times when you keep adding to the list, it’s actually good to see the things that you need to do as whether they’re recorded or not they need to get done.
Now I feel a bit more relaxed as I know that I’m staying on top of things and not missing anything. It’s a great feeling to see things crossed off the list and it’s been eliminating a lot of the procrastination that has tripped me up before. Now I look for things to cross off my list all of the time.

The Benefits of Moving 2 years ago

I’ve moved from one office to another office and it’s a lot smaller with less storage space. The move corresponded with the end of the school year, so now it’s time to wrap up and plan for the Fall after the very clear milestone of changing locations. The great thing about this is that I was able to purge lots of files before the move and now I have a clean desk to start with. One of the major challenges that I’ve faced with implementing GTD is that I had a hard time clearing my desk while everything was happening. Now I’m going to try and get the system set up and working while things aren’t so busy and in the Fall when everything starts up again I’ll just plug everything into the system.

Getting Things Done 3 years ago

One of my Christmas presents was the book Getting Things Done by David Allen. It’s been something that I’ve wanted to read for a while and now I’m really enjoying it. The next action that I’m going to take is to set up my systems to put it into practice and become more productive.
