I can honestly say, I will probably NOT hike the entire AT. My dad (passed 2/21/06), hiked the entire trail over 3 years taking one month trips. He kept a journal and printed and bound little books for all of us. I still haven’t made the time to read all the journals… I should add the to my list!! The fact that my dad started the trail at the age of 59 and finished just before the 63 birthday, still amazes me.
My dad passed away while hiking up Mnt. Kilimajaro in Tanzania, Africa. He died of a heart condition that we were unaware of. It would have be terrible if he died while on the AT- there he was alone. He didn’t go with anyone and sometimes went off the trail to take photos. At least when we was on Mnt. Kilimajaro, my sister was with him.
I’ll hike part of the AT for him.
