So, I have a reporting trip to Berlin and thought maybe I should work on that for awhile. Just so I can get around a little?
UPDATE: Just downloaded/subscribed to free German lessons podcast. Learn as I ride the subway?
Here’s what I’ve been doing: downloaded free lessons to my ipod. Listen as I walk to the subway stop (I’ve been walking to the farther down stop.) That combines learning a language and getting some exercise.

interviewed a young man today for a segment—anyway, he said he wants to be one of those people who speak four languages and communicates with the world.
sigh.
Maybe I should spend more time in the Bronx.

I sit next to a girl at work who speaks Spanish and Mandarin. So, she’s SLOWLY teaching me some Chinese phrases and the basic tones. Its nice to have someone to greet in a foreign language. Now, if I can just make time for a class, maybe I can learn another language by the end of the year.

For radio-news listeners. BBC broadcasts in different languages. Good way to absorb the language if you can’t afford classes.

I’m taking the learning thru television immersion route to learn Spanish. I already speak/understand basic Spanish, so this seems to be the cheapest way to learn right now.
The Olympics is good to watch in Spanish b/c if you know the sport at least a little, you don’t miss out on what’s going on. I’m slowly absorbing what the announcer is saying and I really like their different focus on the China coverage between events.

But how?
Classes are too expensive.
Any creative ideas?
I’ve been watching Telemundo…
