adopt a child

My husband is still leaning towards having our own, and I’m becoming more and more okay with the idea, but I would still like to adopt one, and probably before having one naturally. We’ve been married seven months now, and I’m thinking about possibly starting to look into it this summer since I’m sure it takes a year or more to complete, and we’ll have been married at least two years by the time we actually get to adopt.

I would be fine without children. Hubby wants one. I’m scared to death of the whole pregnancy/birth process. I also do not like babies – at all. Give me a 4-6th grader that you can have a meaningful conversation with and play games with that don’t drive you out of your mind with boredom because they’re so rediculously easy. I’ve been around my nephew enough recently that I have come to DETEST that 3 year old scream!

That said, if I could skip the pregnancy/birth phase, I think I would be okay with having a baby. If I could skip the first 3 years of life, I think I might be okay with the pregnancy/birth thing (the first option’s easier tho ;) ). The entire process as a whole scares the living daylights out of me. Take a portion out, and I feel better prepared to handle it.

I tell people I want to adopt to help out a child with no family. That’s not entirely true. My reasons are more purely selfish.
