It’s amazing how frustrated I get when I don’t draw. All of a sudden I sink into this crazy depression. It’s even more strange how my drawing craving ranges. For example when I draw/create stuff for work it’s as if it balances that desire to draw constantly. But nothing- NOTHING gives me more satisfaction like drawing personal stuff. I’m not talking about a little sketch here and there in the afternoons I’m taking about strange drawing fixations that has me waking at 7am on a Saturday morning to finish them off… Super sad I know.
Anwyho I did this sketch for an online competition. The theme was Excalibur so I decided to portray Lancelot and Guinevere. The idea stemed from reading about one of Lancelot’s battle and I liked to think that bloodied and beaten he went to Guinevere.I wanted her sadness to be transparent as she’s distraught that her lover nearly died in battle but also because she’s torn between the man she loves and doing the honorable thing which means staying unhappily married to King Arthur. Gotta love Love Stories! It’s a work in progress but I thought I’d share.

Till next time!

Today I’ve been listening to “Sunrise On Pontchartrain” continiously- In case you’re wondering it’s from the Curious Case of Benjamin Button Soundtrack. I was in abit of a sombre mood because of the track and I suppose it made me create something a little sombre in tone.
It is another classical sketch. I’m determined to create one a week. It’s based on a lovely photo of a stone column I found online. I had the photo just sitting on my harddrive and thought I’d sketch it. Sadly I can’t remember where I found the image. But yeah- a quick sketch it took roughly 2hrs.

The goal of this exercise was to sucessfully create different textures with pencil. Stone and believeable stone is tricky- I used some great watercolour paper which assisted with the texture.
I have an unquestionable love for classical architecture, sculpture and furniture so I’ll be posting exercises or sketches on those-
For reference I used a photograph by the talented Martin Beek aka Oxfordshire Church Illustration which, can be viewed here; www.flickr.com/photos/oxfordshire_church_photos/208960298…
Till Next entry!

My my- years have actually gone by since I’ve been on 43things- Quite crazy actually when mentioned out loud. By yes many things have happened. I have been drawing for college-and then for my MA. I’m not going to bore you with those but instead move forward and Draw New Images.. Preferable a “postable” finished drawing by the end of the week or a series of “exercises” aimed at improving my drawing skills. So with that said on with the show.

YAY!! I finished SOMETHING! Well more for the project at uni but at least it’s something… It’s official..my scanner’s a bitch and wants to screw me over. It’s doing something funky with the colours perhaps I’m not colour managing properly in photoshop or something… Anywho’s the idea is for a beauty powder which is set in the 1950’s and the ideals of perfection. Instant beauty in a box I reckon. Anywhos it’s a work in progress.

Yeah me and my procastinating self have actually started to pull some ol pics out that were in storage (when I say storage I mean a folder…underneath my bed..covered in dust and dirty socks….)Anywhos these pics i’ve started months ago and I’m going to finish them up this week..as well as DO A LOT of work for a project I’m doin at uni.. I think the best way to get back into drawing is to take a look at the stuff you’ve done in the past that you’re really proud of… I know it seems a bid dodgy, especially if you havent drawn in a while but still it’s an incentive to keep practising… Anywhos here’s a pic of something i did last yr that i will hopefully finish. One a week is enough for me…
