Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

keep on trying

I noticed that meditating daily helps this goal as well. I do feel more and more that if I’m a little sad or down, I tend to just accept it and go on, and by doing that (just letting it be instead of giving in to the feelings and being dragged around in them) it’s easier to stay not-unhappy. And I actively try to do things because I want to enjoy my life. It’s too short to do things I don’t enjoy, it’s as simple as that.



the happiness project

“A “happiness project” is an approach to changing your life. First is the preparation stage, when you identify what brings you joy, satisfaction, and engagement, and also what brings you guilt, anger, boredom, and remorse. Second is the making of resolutions, when you identify the concrete actions that will boost your happiness. Then comes the interesting part: keeping your resolutions.”



loving it

I realized today that lately, I have actually been enjoying every single day. Life is beautiful, and I feel I’m really living it instead of just letting it happen. This feels so good, and I feel so strong! I’ve come such a long way from my depression (1,5/2 years ago), I can’t believe it! It’s really true: what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. I am so, so much stronger than two years ago, I feel good about life, it’s wonderful. What a gift!



the best goal ever

I’ve got so many goals on my list, but when I ran across this one I thought: oh yes, this is the best goal ever, and totally sums up all the other goals on my list!
So this has to be on top, definitely, because what’s life if you can’t enjoy every day?
