It has always been really hard for me to learn languages and I have yet to figure out why. In the past I have tried learning Spanish, German, French, and Latin. Latin was actually the easiest for me, but it is not spoken and so is actually not super practical to learn. Haha :D. Anyway this year I have decided what language I am going to try to become adept at speaking, reading, and writing: Spanish. It was the first I tried to learn a million years ago and the one I thought I would never try to learn again… But my very good friend and his entire family speak mostly Spanish (and I would love ot be able to speak to them) and most of the places I tend to dance the main language is Spanish it will give me a really good way to practice what I am learning and have people correct me when I am way off. One of the main reasons I think may have been why I seem to have a problem absorbing languages is that I could speak with people in the class setting and so that was not very often. This is going to be my experiment in the real world instead :D. If I can get Spanish down maybe I will try for another too!
Right now I just subscribed to a membership to an online podcast type learning system and am going to give it a try for a month and see if that is a way for me to learn. So far it has been pretty good, though I am only three lessons into the very beginner level :D. Also I am going to watch the Spanish stations when I get a chance and pay close attention when I hear people around me speak Spanish to see if I can pick up what they are saying.
This may sound kinda silly, but I am honestly quite scared to ask my good friend for help in this area. He is a native Spanish speaker so I am sure would be a great help, but he has known me for years and I am afraid that I might sound really stupid all the time to him. Maybe that is just silly and I should talk to him about it… But if I could learn at least all of the very beginner level first (about 32 lessons) then I could shock and awe him ;).
