Well, I’m going down my (so far) list of 23 things, and I’ve reached “Be More Focused”.
I know this is an important goal, especially form me; my brain is what I like to call “deeply shallow”—I follow many different areas from technology to politics to culture to design to current events to music …
This “lack of focus” isn’t all bad - it’s allowed me to thrive in creative positions and live off my wits. And when I turn my gaze to one subject and focus on it intently (for instance, when I’m working on a deadline driven project) I am astounded by the power of focus - I feel like my mind has been transformed into laser.
My “problem” is the only thing that seems to get me to focus is the promise of money or the threat of punishment. I go about my day to day life in a typically unfocused way … going from thought to thought, task to task, without turning on the power of focus to really get to the bottom of things. And especially when it comes to my own life, I never seem to turn the harsh light of focus on things … I prefer that everything stay in a hazy state of blur, so that everything can APPEAR to be fine and dandy, when in fact I know there are problems lurking just beneath the surface.
OK I’ll shut up for now; I’ve purchased “The Power of Focus: How to Hit Your Business, Personal and Financial Targets with Absolute Certainty” and I’m going to begin reading it today. It’s written by Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen and Les Hewitt. I’ll keep posting here on how I find the book and what I learn from it.
Here’s to a focused New Year ;)
