I am marking this as done 2 years ago

because I have made a real effort to do this and have done it on numerous occasions since I adopted this as a goal. I will continue to keep it in mind and do it whenever I can. :)

So, as per my entry yesterday... I made a contribution to 3 years ago

my neighborhood. And let me tell you, if I ever needed proof about karma I got it today… I left this evening around 6pm with my purse, a large box full of packing garbage, a bag of garbage, my 72 pound dog, and a bag with tupperware full of stew i had made along with some other food stuffs I was taking over to my parents house for dinner.

We have some dinner and are relaxing when the phone rings. My dad looks at the call display and says it’s me calling…

To make a long story short, while lugging all that stuff to the truck and the garbage to the bin, my phone fell out of my purse. A homeless guy found it, showed it off to his friends (this is as he relayed the story) everyone made a few calls and then he decided he should try to find it’s owner. He went through my contacts, phoned the local music store (Mother’s) phoned my sister in Florida (sis) and then finaly got a hold of me at my parents (Ma). He told me he was at the local men’s shelter and he would wait there for me…

Nonetheless, I got there, he was waiting outside with my phone… I gave him the $20 I had in my purse and carried on…
I didn’t even know I was missing it. It’s a really high end phone. It’s my lifeline. I don’t even have a home phone. I would have been completely incapacitated without it.

I was so stressed about the fact that my phone was missing. A homeless pperson had it. I had to go to a men’s shelter and find it that I didn’t really have my head about me. Now I wish I had done something more for the guy but alas, the moment has passed.

I truly believe the only reason my phone came back to me today was that I went out of my way several times yesterday to help the less fortunate in my neighborhood.

He said his name was Mike McFadden. So thanks Mike. I really appreciate it… :)

Went through the cupboards today and came up 3 years ago

with 2 bags of stuff to take to work for the Food Bank. Good stuff, too… Cream of Wheat (yum) and real maple syrup to go with… salmon, tuna, dill pickle relish (not the yucky sweet stuff), lemon juice, pasta sauce, mixed organic beans, granola bars and Crystal Light… It was jsut what I had here…
We are working on filling a car full of food for the Food Bank. We did it last year at all of our dealerships and managed to send over an entire cube van full of food…
I don;t think the rest of our stores have gotten organized to do it this year but I did! I made a big sign and cut out letters and had the boss cut snowflakes with me… Says “Stuff an Acura”.
I was really impressed with my sign. haha Didn’t know I was so crafty. hahahaha

I think I did my part today... 3 years ago

I dropped off 20 Advent calendars at the food bank. Granted a few days late but the kids will just have to have a few extra chocolates on their first day. :)
Weent home to walk my dog and realized I left my gloves at the office. I was digging through to see what other gloves I had at home and noticed I had lots of scarves and hats and a couple pair of gloves that I didn’t wear anymore. I put them all in a bag and took them on my walk. We went my the mustard Seed Church at dinner hour at I just bellowed, “Does anyone need mitts or scarves or hats?” And they were gone in a moment.
Then I went grocery shopping and bought one of those pre packaged food bank things that the grocery store has and dropped it in the bin on my way out.
Stopped at Tim Horton’s on my way home for a coffee and decided to get Bobby, the homeless guy on the corner a coffee… He wasn’t on the corner, turns out they found him a place at a shelter so I gave it to a very toothless native lady who was very appreciative.
Total cost today: $32.40 plus clothes that were already in my closet. Yet I feel like I did more… What a nice feeling.
I think maybe next week I will bring like 8 Tim Horton’s coffees to the corner….

I love to bake lately... 3 years ago

I have filled my parents freezer and stuffed the office and fed all my friends and mothered and fed every sick, tired, lazy, sad hungry person I know. Think if i baked a big batch of muffins or banana bread or something anywhere would take it as a donation?

Everyone is talking about how they are giving... 3 years ago

and I think that is totally awesome but the goal was to give them food they actually like… not jsut the stray stuff in your cupboard that you are giving away because you dodn’t really want it anyway…
How do we know what the needy actually like? Do they know, especially if they are really hungry?

How... 3 years ago

How are we doing this exactly?
