Well, the Rock Christmas band didn’t happen, the gig was a bit too hard to organise. Oh well.
I did come up with a new band concept the other night (and the beginings of a song) the concept is to play funk music dressed as robots, and maybe have the singing go through a synthesiser to make it sound robotic. The song I started on is called “Robobot is programmed to love you” which I’m surprised no one has written yet because it’s a pretty good song topic. Maybe someone has written it and I just haven’t heard it.
Now to track down some funk playing robots… and make up a good band name, at the moment it’s RoboFunk, but that’s possibly a bit boring and obvious. The other funk band I wanted to be in was called the Funking Key Changers, and all we were going to do was play funk and the only lyrics were about the key you were in, or what key you wanted to change to. That band never happened, but maybe there’s some scope for it in the new one.

I’ve pretty much decided that a good band concept would be a mock rock band doing Christmas carols. I will have to find a good singlet and possibly get bigger muscles, but other than that I think I’m ready to rock and roll.
As a side note, I’m quite pleased with the genre “mock rock” it goes along with my old band which I described as “joke folk” now I just need an appropriate adjective that rhymes with pirate!

Well, just got a call from a friend who is thinking of putting on a Christmas gig, if I am to be involved the choices are:
a) start another band
b) play Christmas music with my pirate band
two good options!

I am a habitual band starter, but yesterday I watched a documentary on the Flaming Lips, and I was really inspired to start a new band which focusses on stage craft and making a really great performance.
