Become a pirate

this be my most cheered goal, so I’m glad to be finally puttin’ her to rest. Last night were a hilarious night of pirate yellin’ and singin’ and general mayhem. Hearing the triangles play pirate versions of their shanties was most pleasing to the ears, and I enjoyed playing our tunes too even though I was forgetting chords and lines all over the place.

Arrr! Today be the day! International Talk Like A Pirate Day! I hope ye all be well and are takin’ the oppertunity to speak like pirates and insult yer mates with phrases such as “ye scurvy bilge rat” and “ye land lubbing, barnacle brained sea slug.” Yesterday we were just lads, today we be men, and piratey men at that!

I think I will have achieved this goal by this Sept 19th… because I am playing a gig with my pirate band. For those of you who live in Melbourne here is a copy of the email which I sent to all interested parties in my addressbook:

Ahoy ye scurvy land lubbers!

This here email be a herald fer ye first annual International Talk Like A Pirate Day Celebratory Gig. Arrrr, it be the best day of the year, and worth celebratin to be sure. If ye fancy some piratical tunes and a few tankards of ale then join me on Monday the 19th September when I will be joinin a few other crusty sea dogs to perform a few shanties and maybe even a jig or two, the crew from The Triangles will be sailin in to add some class to the evening. As it be a school night we will be startin early and finishin early, so don’t be too late or ye’ll miss the show ye slimy bilge rats!

Here be the details:
Day: International Talk Like A Pirate Day (Monday the 19th September)
Tavern: The Underpass – The Terminus Hotel, 492 Queens Pde, Clifton Hill
Hour: 8pm
Bedtime: 10pm
Dress: Anyone in good pirate costumes will be rewarded, those wearing pantaloons with yer bum crack showing will be shunned.
Cost: Not sure, it may cost ye five gold dubloons, or it may cost ye none. If price be a barrier, I’ll sneak ye in the back way. Updated info: the music will be free! ye can keep yer pieces of eight in yer own pocket.

I’d best give ye a warning that we be much better pirates than we be musicians, so if ye enjoy eye patches then come along, but if yer favourite thing in yer cabin be yer Bach CD then ye best steer clear, or at least bring some cork to plug up yer ears.
