learn to play the bagpipes

Well, the practice chanter arrived yesterday. Ready for the challenge, I put it all together, found a fingering chart online, and was amazed that there WERE ONLY NINE NOTES!!! Nine notes??? What an earth can be so hard about that? I’m used to having to learn 20 odd scales on the French horn. I spent a couple of hours learning the fingering yesterday, and today I’ve found an online version of Amazing Grace which I’ve worked through. The only real difficulty I’m having so far is having to shake the water out of the chanter every 10 minutes.

I love the bagpipes, and I like the idea that they’re challenging to play. I’m going to look into getting a practice chanter.
