The one benefit of falling as far behind on my gardening is that I didn’t get out to buy annuals til yesterday. And they’re almost all half price. I dote on the perennials in the yard, but use the annuals for containers, of which I have about 30. I’m heading out again today in search of more cool annuals.
the reason I fell so far behind: I did NO garden work last fall, then we had a freezing cold spring, so I’ve spent most of my time when it’s warm cleaning up the mess I left last year.
But, I have little of that left, and one garden that I’m reshaping - we had to have a tree cut down - so I’m in ok shape finally.

Before today ends, I need to get all the tomato plants in, and put the basil in pots. I bought every pot of basil that Home Depot had. That stuff sells out so fast, I am lucky to have enough to get me through the summer. I make LOTS of pesto. I’m a pesto recipe magnet. I just wish I could keep it growing through the winter. I put a fence around my shade bed to keep my crazy poodle puppy from digging up everything right after I plant it. Poodles are a gardening breed, you know. Bred through the centuries for their cultivation skills.
