This has actually been going well. Part of the trick for me has been not making every workout necessarily a huge, whole-body, hour-long endeavor. Instead, when I’ve got ten minutes, I’ll grab the dumbbells and hit a muscle group that I haven’t worked in at least 48 hours, or do some squats or calf raises, or some isometrics.
Running is still irregular, but I’m doing it.
It looks like my wife can get out of her current gym contract (at a very ghetto Bally’s), and we can work out together at NYSC! And until then, the manager at the Staten Island NYSC (which is freaking huge, and which my wife loved when she visited with me) is willing to give her guest passes.
Having someone to go with, even if our schedules only sync up once a week, can be a real motivator.
I’m in my fourth week at the new job, and have made it to my new gym down the street no less than twice every week so far. I need to improve that, and keep it up, but twice a week is much better than not at all.
Oh yeah, and I weighed 198 in my towel, and I’m already starting to see the changes in my arms. (I don’t put too much stock in that – resistance training always shows some amount of quick change in the beginning.)
Well, it’s not actually free, but my job subsidizes my membership to the NYSC a block away. That’s made it easier for me to get some regular exercise.
