Soapmaking 3 years ago

Soapmaking is fun, and you end up with LOTS of soap for gifts to people. The hassle part is waiting for the soap to cure. One year I made soap in October to have it ready to give to people for Xmas gifts. It’s fun to shop for fragrances and molds. Dollar stores have pots and pans you can buy for using only for
soap.

Homemade soap is so much cleaner-feeling on your skin, and the lather is softer and less foamy than store-bought soap.

My favorite recipe is one that uses palm kernel and olive oil together. It makes the skin very soft.

Avoid coconut oil—it makes good lather but it’s drying to the skin.

My only disappointment was that I was never able to make a clear bar of soap, ‘Neutrogena’ style. It always clouded up on me. But it still worked beautifully, and my friends with sensitive skin LOVED this one for their faces.

Don’t forget to wear goggles, gloves, and a shirt with long sleeves. Lye hurts!
