For the past few years, I’ve been doing yearly tarot readings which give a preview/overview of the new year. In past years, once I’ve done the reading, I made a chart of my thoughts for each month. This year, I decided to make interpretative cards for each month. Another way in which this year’s reading is different is I used two decks (Rider-Waite and Song for the Journey home) rather than just one. Month by month, I will paint each card, so that by the end of 2008, I will have 13 cards (an extra cards as an overview). So while I won’t have a traditional tarot deck made, it will be a very personal deck.

i haven’t exactly begun to design my own deck, but what i’ve found myself doing lately is to draw/sketch a card with markers, randomly/subconsciously drawing elements as they appeal to me. For example, I’ve drawn the symbol for myself, with the 4 of cups, ace of swords, 7 of wands, and 3 of pentacles, with other elements, like water, a border, etc. I then use this card at the head of my daily meditation spread. it’s an interesting exercise.
