Today Trek and I went running. I ran until it started to hurt and timed myself for a ten minute push after that. I’m not sure how far or long I ran (as I only timed the last push) but I feel like it was a good workout. I know one thing, Trek will sleep well tonight!

My trip this weekend has inspired me to once again push this goal to the forefront. I was in so much pain after our second day of intense hiking. I have three weeks to kick my exercise routine in gear before the next trip. I want to keep it fun and interesting: outdoor running, hiking, weight training, biking . . . I think I’ll also throw in some climbing gym workouts. I’ll see what else I come up with to get in shape while having fun.
I loooove physical activities – I could rock climb, backpack, kayak, bike, ect. for hours – and I do as often as I can. Problem is, these activities are all time consuming. I may only have an hour for physical activity on any given day. Even after all these years, I cannot find an exercise program I can stick with: I don’t like going to the gym, I HATE exercise equipment, group exercise classes are always at a bad time . . . I have a whole list of excuses. My biggest problem is that I just can’t get motivated to do anything I don’t enjoy. I need someone to help motivate me and hold me accountable.
I need to find a way to motivate myself to do some light weight training and cardio. I know I could be in much better shape and it would allow me to take all my outdoor activities to the next level. I need to read an inspirational book or something . . .
