but I think I may have found a new place to live. I have a couple of friends who are moving to North Carolina and they are trying to get me into the place they will be leaving. Standalone cottage in central Capitol Hill, nice back porch and patio so I can get back into grilling and smoking again (no room for that where I currently live), closer to work than at present, cool neighbors, a place to safely park my crabby old ‘61 bug without fear of being ticketed, dog-friendly (finally I can rescue a pit bull puppy!) and the kicker: NO RENT in exchange for about 5 hours per week of maintenance (mow grass, weed, rake/blow leaves, etc. for the church next door.) This is about as perfect an arrangement as I can imagine! I really need this, as I haven’t felt quite ‘at home’ in the place I’ve been living for the past 2 years, and my current landlord is eccentric (in a bad way) and nosy to say the least. I hope I’m not jinxing this by writing about it, but the owner really wants to meet me, and I can’t imagine anything going wrong. So let’s knock on wood and keep the old fingers crossed!

Let’s see… Great restaurants? Check. Taco trucks? Check. Used book store? Check. Movie theater? Check. Angie’s Tavern? Check. Good friends? Check. Close to Lake Washington and Seward Park? Check. Easy access to a major busline and (soon to be) light rail? Check. Bob’s Quality Meats? Check. Lots of places to park my cranky old ‘61 bug? Check.
So what’s stopping me other than the fact that the place I now live in Squire Park is probably the cheapest rent in Seattle? But I hate it, so…
If anyone down Columbia City way knows of any openings, let me know! Thank you and good day.
