1 lb. lost 3 weeks ago

Weighed myself this a.m. and I lost 1 lb. this week. I didn’t feel slimmer, as I had last week. Last week I FELT slimmer when I weighed myself and saw I lost 3 lbs. Still, I’ll take 1 lb. lost over 1 lb. gained. I’ll stick to Phase 1 for another week, but keep the apple in, add a grapefruit now and then, berries as called for, and oatmeal. Next week will be a transition from Phase 1 into Phase 2. Carbs cravings have not been a major issue for me, except the apple, which I decided to add to my Phase 1. It helped keep me from straying from the plan. I still won’t eat rice, potatoes, and bread. Bread is no issue because I really only like it to keep the stuff in my sandwich together. I can let white potatoes go because I know they are not good for me, and I eat rice only a couple times a month, and pasta less than that – maybe a few times a year – so I’ve not missed them. I think this is one reason my weight loss has been small compared to the stories in the book: I ate few carbs before, mostly fruits, veges, beans, whole grains, and lean meats. The main thing is I’ve cut out sweets. I don’t even eat that ricotta dessert, but instead have a cup of Good Earth tea (no sugar or sweetener) for my dessert. It’s sweet enough and satisfies that craving. I think about it during the day when I’m presented with sweets, and can resist because I’ll get my cup of tea at the end of the day.

One more week 3 weeks ago

I’m going be on Phase 1 for one more week. Then to Phase 2. I’ve not read about Phase 2 yet, so it’s good I’m waiting. I’ll read about it this weekend so I can buy the appropriate foods for the next phase of my weight loss.

Still on Phase 1 3 weeks ago

The only difference is that I’ve added one apple a day. Also I ate a yam yesterday, cooked in a crock pot. It was very sweet and I could see how it could trigger my sweet tooth. I have several other yams, which I will eat, but after that I’m going to buy sweet potatoes instead. I’ll eat up the yams during the next couple weeks with protein and fat. I weighed myself yesterday and was still at that 10 lbs. lost point, so it was not a fluke, but the real deal. Yay!

Lost 3 lbs. this week 4 weeks ago

I’m still having trouble wrapping my head around this Phase 1 diet. I need to get more clear on foods to eat, rather than sticking to the same over and over. Recipes are good, but I need quick and easy foods that I can throw into my lunch box and head off to work, where I do most of my eating. Anyway, this has not turned into a lifestyle yet, but it has to because my health depends on it. I want to lose weight to “look good”, but I need to lose it to avoid a stroke or heart attack.

2nd week 4 weeks ago

I’m into my 2nd day of week 2, and it is easier because I am more in the groove and understand food better. I also bought the South Beach Diet cookbook, but have not read it yet. There is a section on how to set up a South Beach Diet pantry and fridge. This is what I need, to understand what I can eat. My fiance says I’ve lost inches, but I don’t know if it’s more than the pound I lost last week. I’m just going to keep at it. I plan to go at least an extra week on the Phase 1. I’m scared to get off it, scared that any progress I make will be subtracted once I go to Phase 2.

4 full days 1 month ago

I’ve been on this, and lost 1 pound. I have cheated a bit, like I eat an apple a day—except only because I bought these awesome apples before I read the book, and don’t want them to go bad. I have one apple left, then I won’t buy any until I’m in a phase that allows apples. I guess 1 pound lost is better than 1 pound gained, or no loss. I’ll be more organized next week so my food will be more in line with the phase guidelines. I need to ramp up my exercise.

Hanging in there 1 month ago

The hardest part is that my foods are limited because I have had little time to shop to vary my menu, but I will tomorrow afternoon. The next hardest part is no fruit. I want apples! I’ve been on it since Tuesday and don’t feel thinner. I’ve not weighed myself yet (only on Sundays), so can’t be sure. I’m not going to give up though even if I’ve gained weight. I plan to be on Phase 1 for 3 weeks, then maybe another week after that. I’ve been eating a whole chicken breast in the evening, but I’m going to change it to half because I’m feeling stuffed afterwards. It’s just too much meat for me.

Don't want to think about food all day 1 month ago

I don’t want food to become the focal point of my life, having to weight this, count numbers, etc. I want it simple. I think this diet makes it simple. Phase 1 has so much of what I eat already in it, and I avoid most of the carbs anyway, except for the whole grains which I guess I’ll find out how much I’ll crave. I just hope I actually lose weight.

Giving the carbs away 1 month ago

I brought a box of Cheerios to work and left them in the communal food area. I’m going to give away food that I can’t eat on this diet to the food bank. It’s still all good, but not good for me. Also going to walk at least 1 mile a day, and try for 2 miles each day. I want to lose weight for appearance, mainly I’m doing this to bring down cholesterol.

Started yesterday at lunch 1 month ago

My breakfast was cereal with soy milk, so I don’t count it, but at lunch I had turkey lettuce roll ups, and stayed away from carbs. Last night I made a taco chicken breast salad without the corn tortilla or chips, with lots of cabbage, one tomato, a bit of purple onion, cheese, and El Pato (from the red can). It filled me up! Not hungry all night, but my insides didn’t feel stuffed either. For dessert I had the Good Earth caffeine-free tea, sugarless of course because the cinnamon already makes it sweet. Today is my first full day. I had 2 strips of turkey bacon and an asparagus, red onion, and mushroom 1-egg scramble with a bit of grated cheese on it. Green tea, and I’m set. I think I’ll do well on this diet. A lot of what Phase 1 calls for, I do already. I had to give up bread for sandwiches, but really the bread is only to hold it together and lettuce is working just fine. I’m looking forward to losing weight within 2 weeks.
