My DBF remarked yesterday that the house looks more spacious and less cluttered. That felt good because I’ve been really working at it. It’s still too cluttered, but better.

Did some cleaning this weekend that ended up decluttering my bathroom and kitchen in significant ways. It feels so good to have more space and less stuff from simple cleaning! Now I have to do the floors. I also decluttered two drawers at work that hold food, utensils, mugs, etc. One drawer is totally empty, and ready for files. The other drawer is so organized that I can look inside and see everything there, and get what I want easily. What a concept! I also got rid of clothes.
I too am going to sort stuff out this weekend for clothes that I no longer will wear. I still have some BIG stuff, as in physically large, to declutter. I hope I can do that this weekend. My plans have changed slightly about the sofa on the back porch. I’m thinking of spraying it for bugs/spiders, then moving it into the living room, but moving out the one that’s in there now (it’s over 30 years old, a hand-me-down from a friend who had it for years, then I’ve had it for years). I’ll put that one on the front porch for my dogs to sleep on and the better one on the back porch can go inside.
I like it on other people, but not on me. So I gave them away to a niece and a friend. Also I won’t be buying it anymore, and will save money.
A much beloved skirt, worn out, got thrown in the trash. I hardly ever throw stuff away, and try to recycle in some way, but this skirt was not even salvageable in that area. The shirt I gave to a co-worker, who looks great in it and was thrilled. Made my day!
I broke a beloved Reef flip flop the end of last summer, and it has been sitting with its mate in my bedroom since then. Well, this summer is practically over, and I didn’t fix it. My absolute favorite flip flop ever. Anyway, I looked it over carefully last night and really got it that I cannot fix that flip flop. It will never work. So I decluttered it. It has been an icon for the things I can’t let go when I really don’t want them anyway. Will this pop the cork?
I am taking the dead refrigerator to the dump this weekend. If I could just do that, it would be the cork out of the bottle and a lot of other clutter would start to flow out of my house. That fridge is the blockage.
to the Gospel Rescue Mission in Tucson, rather than keeping it around forever with the hopes of maybe someday having a yard sale. Instead it is out of my hair, plus I got a tax write-off, and one of the people at the mission said beds are like gold: hard to come by and gone immediately. I felt so good after donating that bed!
in small, but significant ways. The house looks so much better. More to do as usual.
If I would move an item to a new home 1500 miles away, it’s worth keeping. If I wouldn’t, best to get rid of it now. This works pretty well. It’s not perfect, but combines with the no PROCRASTINATING strategy, I’ve been able to weed out some stuff.
