Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

29

Now I’ve been to the first 29. I am hoping to go out again once I finish work at the end of June. July is crazy hot here so I’ve been questioning whether it’s a good idea or not.
After visiting a couple temples today I’ve decided that I’m at least going to try. If I go home without at least making an attempt I know I’ll regret it. I’ll just have to deal with being incredibly uncomfortable the whole time.

Re-opening

Even though I do have this listed in 43 places I want to reopen this goal because it really is something that is important to me at the moment.
Now I’ve been to the first 17. I’ve met a lot of interesting people along the way and I have been learning a lot as well. I’ve visited all of the temples by bicycle, except Shosanji (12), which I hiked to from temple 11 (about a five hour hike – well worth it!).
I have a week off at the end of April and my goal is to get as far as temple 37. I wish I could take a longer vacation and go all the way around, but alas, the rest will have to wait.

Untitled

I’m moving this to 43 places. So far I’ve visited the first 5 temples. Hopefully I’ll get to them all within a year or two.

Started today!

I’m not sure if I’ll be able to do the whole thing in one spurt. I would like to do it by bike, but I would want to give myself at least two weeks and I won’t have that kind of vacation time. I was considering doing it when my contract is up, but I can’t be sure it would actually happen.
So, I’ve decided to try to complete it slowly over the course of the next year (less if I can do it!). I biked to temples 1 and 2 today. I would have gone to 3 but they seem to close at 4:30 and I got a late start. I should be able to do the first 22 just by doing daytrips on weekends. The rest will have to wait until I have a decent amount of time off… which might not be until April.
It’s not the same as fully emersing yourself in it for a solid month, but it will be a good experience none-the-less. It allows me to improve my physical fitness, explore shikoku and, most importantly, explore my spirituality.
