I decided to come to Japan without really saving beforehand, and as you can imagine I ended up in the hole for awhile. I’ve been sending home a decent amount of money each month, that goes towards paying off that line of credit, as well as my monthly student loan payments, RRSP contributions and credit card bills (I went home for Christmas which was pricey). Only one more month and I’ll be able to start putting more of that money into a savings account! I can’t wait!

I need to keep track of what I’m spending so that I can cut down on unnecessary costs. I am saving some money each month… but I think that figure could be higher.
This past month has been pretty bad in terms of spending money. With traveling, concerts and my sister visiting I spent way more than I usually do. But I just got paid so I’m going to send a big chunk home so that it’s not there for me to spend. I’m also going to start writing down what I’m spending, that will probably help keep it under control.
I’ve saved my target amount for these two months! It was easier than I thought too.
Maybe next month I can aim to save more.
Too bad it’s all going to pay off debts.
Biggest tax refund ever! Almost $1000 :D
I’m not doing great at the whole saving money thing. I get paid in two weeks, and I’ve given myself a spending limit. If I stick to my plan I should be able to send a decent chunk home! I’ll feel so much better once my credit line starts getting paid off.
Then I can actually start SAVING money rather than just paying off debt :P
I’m spending way more money than I thought I would getting set up. But if my plan works out, I should be able to pay it off and then start saving a significant amount (well, significant to a starving student like me).
For the meantime I just need to stop and think about what I really need before I spend excess money.
Just got back from the bank. Decided it was time to set up an RSP (I had one before, but took all the money out for school :S). It only has a mere $500 in it right now, with $25 going in each month. But it still makes me feel really good :D
I should probably start off with “get out of debt”... but for now I’m just going to concentrate on little things: making my own coffee in the morning, not buying anything that I don’t really need, shop in bulk…
work on getting a better paying job…
