London, UK, #100

I just realised that in an attempt to add a bit more support from Europe, I became the hundredth person to take up this goal. do I win a prize? ;-)

While I’m here, here are a few ideas. As was said elsewhere, as locals, we need to make sure the locations in our area are correctly spelt and in the right hierarchical place. Correct me if I’m wrong but at the moment, if a location has been mistakenly created in the wrong place, there is no way to move it in the hierarchy. It would be good if we could. Also when it comes to places, a strict hierarchy is not always adequate. For instance, England is divided into counties. However, the area commonly referred to as Greater London covers parts of multiple counties. Similarly, a region like Catalonia is split between France and Spain; Russia is partly in Europe, partly in Asia. How can we model this properly in a way that is intuitive to use?

In terms of information that could be useful at a local level, here are a few random ideas: info on public transport (eg London tube, buses, river boats), links to local information web sites (eg TimeOut), currency (not trivial, eg some places in London do accept Euro and US Dollars as well as Pounds), official languages, etc. There are quite a few interestng things you could do with accurate location information, such as showing distances between points; showing the closest public transport stops to a given place; the closest pizza place, museum, park, etc.

I need to go to bed, I’m not sure I make sense anymore :-)
