Today  — 1 year ago

I am hanging out my washing, and tidying up the floor of my room. Also, possibly making a start on the mile-high (well, six-inch) pile of paperwork on my desk..

Today, I got off my...  — 1 year ago

..er, chair, and went and met someone in a pub. I didn’t really want to, but now I’m so glad I did! Not only did I have a really nice chat with him, but I also discovered the beautiful Portsdown hill area and watched a magnificent sunset. I’ve never been to that area before, but it won’t be the last time!

I…

  • tidied up my room
  • vacuumed the floor
  • cleaned the bathroom sink
  • practised on the organ.

That last one wouldn’t normally be on a list of things I don’t want to do, but today I just didn’t feel like practising.

I'm changing this goal's name  — 1 year ago

from ‘practice living with self-discipline’, to doing something I don’t want to do every day, as I think this is a more definite and concrete way to aim for the increased practice of self discipline.

I have my mother to thank, as it was she who used to tell me this when I was younger! I think it’s a good idea, and if I can do more than one thing I don’t want to do in a day, so much the better!

Yesterday, I went to personal development,  — 1 year ago

a swimming class, and worked really hard. I was totally exhausted by the end. For some reason, achieving that (simple thing though it was) made self-discipline in everything else that evening easy. I don’t know why physical effort could have such a powerful mental effect; but it was a good feeling.

Yay for swimming..

This evening, I'm going to practice this goal  — 1 year ago

by:

  • practising transposition and scales when I practice on the organ tonight, not just pieces
  • tidying my room and vacuuming the floor
  • putting on a load of washing and hanging it out
  • writing a letter to some good friends in Cornwall, if I have time by that point.

Edit: the picture is of the organ on which I practice—a Walker’s (in case all you would-be organists were interested).

by spending an hour thinking about the goals I want to achieve for next year, and by unpacking my suitcase.

I’m also going to go to bed at 9.30 exactly. :)

Ok.  — 1 year ago

I figure that I need to break this goal down into shorter steps, or individual attempts, otherwise it’s too vague and hard to achieve.

So…my first mini-goal towards greater self-discipline is: to work for two hours solidly on my assignment today, and to go to bed at 10pm. Will report :)
