I am really bored by AOL Instant Messenger. I’m tired of talking to people and lacking the tone. It’s just so informal. I used to love it because it was convenient and allowed me to not use the phone, and I’m not a big fan of talking on the phone. But now, I think it’s too informal and I’m older and feel more mature when I don’t use AIM to talk to people. I’m going to stop using it, but it might be harder to keep in touch with people, which I already have problems with because people don’t respond to my emails and phone calls, but it’ll make me feel like I’ve spent less time online.
When I’m at home and not at school, like now, this goal is no sweat. I always have people to talk to and I’m much more comfortable calling the people I know here than the people at school.
But, how do I change the school situation?
Why can’t I get off the internet?!
1. Check my email accounts.
2. Check the weather.
3. Browse 43things and other sites like this. Typically while I eat, but it always progresses into longer.
4. Read my livejournal friends page. I think I should leave some of my communities.
5. Internet window shop.
6. Check what’s on tv.
7. Watch the lonelygirl15 YouTube drama.
I wish I knew how to quit! I’ll try eating on the table or away from the computer. I just get bored, since I mostly eat on my own. I’ll read a book or papers.
1. Read the many non-school books I am dying to read.
2. Go to bed earlier.
3. Exercise. Do pilates, play raquetball, etc.
4. Cook lunch or dinner.
5. Practice drawing.
6. Chat with my roommate more.
I hardly ever talk to anyone besides the people I always call anyway. The past 2 weeks my school has been having a problem with AIM, so I couldn’t get on for more than 5 minutes. It was kinda frustrating, but actually really relieving. I liked not “having to be near my computer.” Now that it’s back I want to stop using it.
Also, most of the time that I use the internet it is for dumb things. The sad part is I repeat those dumb things throughout the day. I could accomplish many more of these goals faster and do my schoolwork if I didn’t spend so much time sitting near my computer.
I think I will start trying to work on the dining room table.
