I changed this goal from saving $4500 to saving 3 months expenses. The original dollar amount was for moving out with, but I’ve moved out now. My new goal is to save enough money to have a buffer of 3 months in case anything happens to my job. The first step is to figure out exactly how much one month’s expense is!

Paid off my credit card in full, which means I will have a lot more money available to give to my savings account. As of right now, I am 21% of the way to my goal. From here on out, I should be making big deposits!
I wanted to save $10,000 dollars, but it was just an idle goal to have money in the bank. Now I have a new goal, $4500, which represents an actual amount: three months expenses for moving out. Today I made my first actual deposit to my savings account in a long while putting me up to 15% of my goal.
I’m going to take 35% out of every paycheck and dump it straight into my savings account for as long as I’m living at home with my parents. I live off the rest. The 35% represents the portion of your income that typically goes to rent.
Right now I’ve got like $300 bucks in my savings account. There used to be a lot more but I spent it all on silly things like travelling the world and supporting myself without a job. I want there to be $10k sitting in my savings account!
