I recently made a silly video of myself telling a story. It was way harder than I thought. I was really self-conscious. I said ‘ummmmm’ a lot. I misrepresented myself. I looked stiff.
There’s a whole generation of kids that are doing similar things on YouTube, and doing it a lot better than I. I think the secret to staying young and interesting is to do the things that look stupid and/or confusing. Crotchety old people are not any more justified in their cynicism and stagnation than you are at any age. They’ve just held on to it for longer. The world moves on.
So, in the spirit of being vulnerable, I want in on what the silly kids are doing.
There’s one particular user that I ran across, nickynik, who I find particularly inspiring. This guy is middle-aged and married with children. Yet, he’s incredibly fun and juvenile. He’s like an ADD teenager stuck in a man’s body. Whether or not you think his creations are funny, you have to admit that it looks like he’s having a blast.
Attached is the silliest pic I could muster. Baby steps, only baby steps.
