Here’s a before picture, so you can see how they’ve come along =D

I’ll have had mine on for a year on June 11th. It’s been both annoying and brilliant simultaneously: I love being able to see the amazing resuts, but get irritated when I can’t eat certain things. Hopefully I’ll have them off in maybe 4 months? My top teeth are practically done, they’re just closing the gaps on my bottom row where I had 2 removed. I think I’ll throw a party when they’re off!
Saw the dentist today and he says my teeth are fine, so on with treatment – hooray! My teeth look so much better =)
...And my top teeth are nearly done. There’s a complication, however, with one of my bottom teeth, which has meant I’ve had the wire removed for now. There are always possible complications, but other than the pain I didn’t expect any, so I’m a little disappointed. One of my teeth has darkened slightly, and my orthodontist can’t tell why, so I have a referral to see a specialist. Let’s hope it works out okay.
Other than this blip in my treatment, getting the braces was a total no-brainer. Yes, they’re expensive, yes you get crap stuck in them and yes it hurts after tightening. But having beautiful teeth is something I’ve always dreamed of… So it has to be worth it =)
Nearing 3 months on and there are pretty big changes already. The gaps on my lower pallet are closing nicely, and the teeth are being brought round into an arch. Previously they were all in a line as there were too many, so I had 2 out. I was in agony afterwards as they were big adult teeth, but it healed up really well =)
I’m booking my appointments 2 months ahead now so I can get them tightened every 4 weeks, rather than having to wait 2 months again like I had to do this time. It’ll mean more regular pain, but ultimately that they come off as soon as possible, which is hopefully in about 10 months, depending.
I must say I am a little disappointed with the ceramic though, it seems to stain rather easily leaving my smile looking a little off-colour, and that’s despite the fact I brush 2/3 times a day… So if anyone’s considering them then maybe don’t bother and just get metal ones. They’re cheaper anyway! But I got some whitening toothpaste and I think it’s helping.
Good luck, all.
My braces have only been on since 11th June and have been a real nuisance some of the time, but I’m used to them now. In fact, I don’t even think about them unless I’m eating or brushing my teeth. Because I have ceramic, certain foods are out as they contain colours that stain the material, but that’s okay. The worst thing I should warn you all about is obviously the pain you experience after tightening, but I’ve also experienced heightened tooth sensitivity.
Apart from those things though, my teeth already look straighter. Can’t wait to see the end result!
Good luck everyone x
...And they feel absolutely fine =) Crisps and anything like that are a nightmare to eat, but as long as you spend plenty of time cleaning the brace afterwards, it’s okay. I have to say, I miss Coke and chewy sweets!
Here’s a photo finally, I’m on the right – you can hardly see them when you’re more than a few feet away.
I wonder how kissing my boyfriend will feel? I’ve not seen him since before they went on!
=S
Well, they’ve been on a week, I can kinda chew normally again and at last the pain has stopped. Those first few days were painful, but I feel fine and confident now, I’m smiling at people normally, not bothering with hiding them at all.
It’s all good! What’s more, I’m sure my teeth have moved ever so slightly. It’s gonna be amazing when they come off, I can’t wait =D
Well, I’m on day two of actually HAVING braces. After all these years of thinking about it, talking about it, and lately, freaking out about it (!) they’re on. And I must admit, contary to the person below me, I am in considerable pain. Maybe it’s ‘cause they’re on my top and bottom teeth, or just because they feel so alien. But they do feel uncomfortable and very tight, and I can’t chew anything at all as it’s just too painful. Thankfully I’m already losing weight, so only eating yogurt and soup for a while will probably do me some good!
Though this sounds like a depressing post, it’s not really as I am so excited for the results. It’s only 12 months, and after this I’ll have the teeth I’ve wanted for years.
To people still considering it, I’d say go for it, but make sure you’re gonna be able to deal with some pain and the inconvenience of having to eat no solids for a few days each time they’re tightened.
Good luck everyone, and let me know if you want pictures! =)
