go back and finish my PhD one day

While I was on campus yesterday to attend a friend’s thesis defense, I met with the department chair who signed off on my second leave of absence. I’m very relieved.

My old department chair emailed me yesterday to see if I had any plans to return to the program next semester because he came across a good funding possibility for me.

I told him I’m happy with my current work situation, and he mentioned the possibility of staying and doing my thesis work there. It’s tempting.

But it hasn’t even been a year since I left the program, and in that time I’ve been quite content. My gut instinct is not to rush back into a situation in which I was so unhappy. My feeling is that I should give it at least another year.

I’m in a great environment at work. I’m happy. I don’t want to mess with that right now.
