have intellectual intercourse

I have these conversations regularly. I have a profession which allows me entry into people’s intellectual and spiritual lives, and provides me with colleagues who draw out of me the best of my own mind. I even have expenses with which to indulge my gluttony for the written word, and I get paid to read, talk and think in a community of very smart and lovely people. But what I’m really longing for is that so sweet quality of relationship in which the intellect is married to the tender and private dance of two hearts. I can’t date at work; I have little time to look elsewhere. Perhaps that mysterious Presence could provide delivery service and drop a chap on the doorstep—I’ll say extra prayers of gratitude if he likes baseball.
