I went down to Louisianan after the storm, it reminds me of a third world country, just a few quick antidotes.
The feeding center where I worked specialized in law enforcement personal, remember there are few places open where one can buy meals, so a few church ladies started making sandwiches and giving them to the police that were on patrol. The Red Cross and the Baptist Disaster Relief then took over the operation and turned the church gym into a dinning room. The Police officers were, at first put up in the Sunday School class rooms; but as they moved to other locations, the Baptist took over the space bedding down their recovery crews and feeding crew. We feed between 1000 – 1200 meals a day to the police. Louisiana state troupers, Illinois Troopers, CHP, Texas Troopers, ICE police (Immigration Customs Enforcement), just to state those hose I can remember off hand.
Tuesday a man came up to me and asked in broken English if he could have something to eat, I asked him if he was Law Enforcement and he replied he was not. I gave him the information that Red Cross had asked us to, as to where he could get some food, we could not handle a large crush of civilians where we were. However I also went in and got him a meal and some water, the man was just hungry! I asked him to go with God and he blessed me back.
I meet a man and his wife in a restaurant in Mississippi, while we were coming home, they were fleeing the next possible storm. Get this! Her son killed himself in February, the man had a heart attack in April, then the storm flooded their house. They had no one to help them, so the two of them moved the furniture out to the front yard tore out the carpet, cut the wallboard up three feet and tore out the bottom that had water damage along with the isolation (standard procedure for a flooded house). While they were doing that someone stole their three sofas! Are you having a bad year, not compeered to them. I prayed with them and for them, but I wish I could do more.

I have been selfish a large part of my life, but only found happiness when I quit thinking of myself. So I am unselfish for selfish reasons. :-)
