You can read all about my lapse on this goal here. But all is not lost. To do? I salvaged a rickety old lap top from my Dad’s office so this week I need to enlist my cousin the engineer to get it in working order. Writing will be far more tempting when I can type, and do it anywhere I want to. In the meantime I’ve bought a new blue spiral notebook and the next couple of weeks will be all about expecting less and writing more. With due concessions to eating, sleeping, breathing, the day job etc. of course…

I noticed yesterday that since I made up my mind to do The Artist’s Way I have been writing spontaneously more as well. The other day I drove straight from work to meet a friend for lunch and arrived about 20 minutes early. It was raining so I sat in my car and did some freewriting about an idea I’d had at work while I waited. And the other day when I arrived home to an empty house I was struck by the urge to write some random, unguided thoughts about airports instead of turning on the TV. It’s all too easy to say “so what? what are you going to do with those mindless scribbles? why don’t you write something?” but progress is progress… right?
