remodel my kitchen

There are a couple of little things left to do, but all in all our kitchen mess has turned into a beautiful room where I now love to be.

The kitchen arrived on the 22nd of march. D sat on the couch when I came home from work, he was staring at the huge load of IKEA boxes parked in our living room. He said “This is not a kitchen. This is just a bunch of boxes!” and I smiled and told him that he had to think ahead, about how we are going to assemble all the things that are inside those boxes. He sighed and agreed.

Friday night we spent emptying the cupboards and putting all the kitchen gear in boxes, and this morning D’s dad and our friend Peter are going to come over and help us tear out the old kitchen.

D busted one of the cupboard doors with his crowbar Thursday night, he thought it felt good and I cringed. Don’t break things which are perfectly usable, I said, and then I realized that it didn’t matter. All the cupboards will be torn apart today, why not let him have his fun? :)

Since the sink had to be glued to the kitchen counter and we didn’t want to do this ourselves, it’ll arrive a little later than the kitchen, second of April.

Better late than never, we’ve finally ordered the kitchen. It’ll arrive on the 22nd this month and after that we (David) will be busy tearing the old kitchen and putting in the new one.

I think my preliminary model won’t work, I measured the room height and will have to choose smaller cupboards.

We have to order the new kitchen within the next 1½ weeks since we’d like to be done before baby arrives. :)

IKEA was a busy place, but we somehow managed to decide on what we want to buy. The next step is making sure the measurements are correct and ordering the stuff.

We’re going to IKEA this saturday, yay!

I think that we will have a “smashing” party sometime in late February, our friends will get to bring drinks and sledge hammers and then we’ll tear down the house old kitchen.

We’ve looked at different options for our kitchen and it looks like it will cost somewhere around 50 000 SEK. We’re already halfway there! Since David owns his apartment, has no loans on it and a ridiculously low monthly fee, we’re both able to save about 5000 SEK a month. I’m amazed and I am thinking “why didn’t we start saving earlier?”.

Well, I know the answer, we were in credit card debt and used the money to pay off the cards, and we spent more than we do now.

In January we’ll have all the money we need for remodeling our kitchen!

We are saving up to remodeling the kitchen. At first we thought about taking a loan, but then we decided that it is better to wait until we have the money.

Buying something with cash is much more rewarding than paying off a loan.
