Today in a lecture about learned behavior we took 10 minutes to try a relaxation technique that I assume is similar to meditation. The key is to allow yourself to relax. I know it sounds cheesy as hell, but you have to accept the relaxation. You start by sitting in a comfy chair with a straight back with your feet flat on the ground and your hands comfy in your lap. Then breathe deeply through your nose and out your mouth focusing our your breathing. Our lecturer said that we should incorporate it into our study habits. It is good idea to use it as way to motivate yourself before you study or if you start to feel tired or “full.” The other cool thing he taught us was to gently resist the other things on our mind. You have to let them be like on a river passing by or like scroll bar at the bottom of CNN. You know they are there but you don’t interact with it…you just let it float by. You breathe in relaxation and you exhale tension. It really was amazing. I figure if I can do that sitting next to my classmates in a lecture hall then i can do it alone in my apartment.
