On a Limb... 4 years ago

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that it is worth joining bookcrossing, because it’s a very cool concept… but, all I’ve really done is join. I have left off any books or anything. Let me explain a little…

Pros: You can track your book online, if someone picks it up and enters it.

Cons: Someone may not pick up your book and if you value reading and books as much as I do, that could make it difficult to part with the book… when, otherwise, you could just lend it to a friend and tell them to lend it to a friend, etc. so you know it won’t get thrown out. Also, I think it’s too bad that they have the bookcrossing kits which you buy. I know it’s a free service and they need to make money somehow… but it just seemed too bad. Call me crazy… or picky… it’s just how I feel.

BUT, I’m sticking with worth-doing, because you can go online and find out where books have been dropped off near you, etc. So, it’s a good thing… and also because, at some point, I might have enough faith to leave a book behind and see if it lands somewhere interesting.

Okay, so I signed up for the membership and now it’s just a matter of time before I start releasing books into the wild. My only concern is that they’ll get thrown away instead of read… Anyone out there know anything about this???

You register a book with this online service and, after you’re done reading it, leave it somewhere for someone else to pick up. On the book, you ask them to do the same. It’s a neat way to circulate reading material… and you get to see if anyone else registers and reads your book online.
